In a first-of-its-kind precedent, University of Thi-Qar has accomplished a historic achievement by entering the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2025, where the university first appeared in this prestigious ranking and ranked the seventh of twenty-two Iraqi universities.
This achievement is acquired as a result of a comprehensive evaluation of the performance of the university across five main areas:
Teaching (learning environment) by 29.5%, as the university ranked 1645 globally.
Diversity of Scientific Research (volume, income, reputation) by 29%, where it ranked 1979.
Quality of Scientific Research (research effect) by 30%, ranked 1952.
International Outlook (staff, students, research) by 7.5%, ranked 1644.
Industry Income (knowledge transfer) by 4%, and ranked 2048.
These results confirm the progress made by the university in the fields of education and scientific research, as the university strives to improve its academic standards through the development of infrastructure, the strengthening of research and development programs, and attracting distinguished teaching competencies.
It also focuses on creating an innovative educational environment that opens up wide horizons for students, which contributes to raising the rank of the university internationally and increasing its competitiveness globally.
On this occasion, the Chancellor of University of Thi-Qar, Prof. Dr. Yahya Abdul Reza Abbas, congratulated all the cadres, members, lecturers and students of the university on this distinguished achievement, pointing out that this success confirms the high academic reputation of the university at the local and international levels. He also added that the university continues to achieve more excellence in all academic, research and community service fields, in line with its strategic plan for improvement and development.
The Chancellor of the University also praised the great efforts made by the vice-Chancellor for Scientific Affairs and all the employees of the Department of Assurance and Quality and the Global Classifications Unit, who contributed to their continuous follow-up and continuous supervision of the classifications team at the university, which encourages professors and colleges to actively contribute in sober scientific sites and journals.
