Overview

  • From the land of fertility and prettiness …

    Thi-Qar, the cradle of Abraham (peace be upon him), that city from which history, and the civilization of Ur, Sumer and Akkad initiated.  The city where the first letter on the face of creation was written, starting from the marshes, the centre of bloom and awareness. This city assigns a date on January 30, 2000 to establish University of Thi-Qar in the city of the father of prophets Abraham (peace be upon him).

    University of Thi-Qar, in the present time, consists of twenty scientific and humanitarian faculties: (Faculty of Education for Pure Sciences, Faculty of Education for Humanities, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Agriculture and Marshes, Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics, Faculty of Management and Economics, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Media, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Education for Girls, Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Faculty of Archaeology, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Basic Education).

    The total number of junior students is more than (20,000) male and female students in the morning and evening studies distributed over (74) scientific departments and branches that embraced more than (1,000) lecturers with different scientific titles and specialisations.

    As for the number of graduate students in the Doctoral, Master and Higher Diploma stages, it reached more than (700) students divided into (39) academic departments in different scientific and humanitarian disciplines.

    University of Thi-Qar also includes five research centres that have provided a lot of research studies and service activities, namely: (Al-Ahwar Research Centre, Electronic Calculator Centre, Development and Continuing Education Centre, Centre for Historical and Archaeological Studies, and English Language Testing Centre). These centres have accomplished a lot of research, studies, training courses, seminars, and workshops.

    The university also involves important research units that have enriched the scientific and research mobility not only at the university, but also in the Southern   region of Iraq, especially the governorate of Thi-Qar, namely (Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Unit, the Environmental Pollution Unit, and Thi-Qar Documentation Unit).

    The university also embraces many other important facilities that contributed to providing a scientific research facility environment for students, the most important of which is the (Central Library), where thousands of books, theses, university dissertations and scientific periodicals are available. It provides its services to students and researchers from inside and outside the university.

    Among these facilities, the Directorate of Dormitory, which includes (6) large buildings that accommodate more than (2,000) students. It is distinguished by providing the best conveniences for students, taking care of their requirements and providing them with various services.

    The University Health Centre with its experienced health and administrative staffs also offers the best health services for students and associates.

    University of Thi-Qar does not limit its role to academic work within the corridors of the university only, but it takes the responsibility to exercise the active and influential role in society through various scientific, cultural and artistic activities with its efficient scientific and long experienced staff. It has recorded an influential and distinguished presence in most activities and events with the government, private departments, institutions and in various sectors that touch the factuality of society and advance its requirements.

    University of Thi-Qar also contributed to the governorate departments with many scientific competencies from the holders of primary and higher degrees in several specializations. This came through the tireless work of the University Council in following up the scientific process in accordance with the strategic plans prepared by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, starting from the establishment of University Cities to International Accreditation.

    University of Thi-Qar connected all its scientific potentials in the field of preliminary studies, graduate studies, external scholarship, research mobility, publication, authoring and continuing education, in order to register an effective and influential presence between Iraqi and international universities in international scientific classifications. This found its aim of scientific research in the minds of competent professors who continued researching day and night in order to elevate the standard of their university. University of Thi-Qar also achieved scientific partnerships in the field of scholarship and scientific cooperation through agreements and memorandums of understanding.

    University of Thi-Qar, a river of giving, gives life, light and hope, unleashes future generations. It is the birth of civilization.

University Logo

  • The slogan of the university conveys deep meanings linked to civilizational heritage, originality and values with aspiration to the aspiring future. It is designed in an abstract style that is commensurate with the lofty visions and aspirations, sharing the formation of the heritage slogan, the authentic approach of the modern educational concept, as well as the infinite horizon that makes the desired scientific future.

    The Basic Elements in the Structure of the Logo are:

    ZIGGORAT:

    A staircase clay temple is one of the oldest temples, located about (10 km) west of Nasiriyah. So, it became the symbol of the first civilizations on this earth, reflecting the originality of this scientific edifice, its belonging to the first civilizations, and the beginning of the dawn of history where the ray of the first Sumerian letter emerged. To authorize the beginning of the blogging era, the university is a natural extension of a six-thousand-year-old civilization.

    University of Thi-Qar

    This phrase has a double meaning, as it is written in English. It gives the most beautiful impression of the openness of the university to cultures and all peoples. Its message is purely human, written in all languages, and addressed to all categories.

    The other meaning found in the colour of the phrase is that it is written in blue, the colour of its Euphrates, on which the oldest human civilizations were based. The Euphrates River, which was a witness to the development of humanity, and the beginning of the dawn of history, will remain a witness to the impact of the university in the dissemination and development of science, and the permanence of the Mesopotamian civilization.

Message

  • The university looks forward to adopting thoughtful scientific research,

    approving various learning and teaching methods, evaluating methods and

    sources, and achieving the requirements of the labour market. The university seeks to serve the community through pioneering research, applied research and

    consultations.

Objectives

  • Updating and developing learning programs according to modern scientific tendencies affording to internationally approved quality standards, taking into account the local conditions.

    Developing the performance of staff members as experts in education and scientific research, and intensifying their activities in various research fields.

    Developing the students’ abilities, knowledge, and skills by introducing them to scientific research methods, approaches, means and tools, and using their results in building society and its development.

    Enabling students to absorb science and technology and develop their capabilities, and their readiness for creativity, invention and renewal to make them competitive, regionally and globally.

    Supporting continuing education, attention to E-learning, and distance learning technology.

    Implementing scientific and applied research associated with market requirements, supporting technical innovations, and employing them to serve the labour market and society.

    Building true partnership with the academic community locally, Arabically, and globally by holding lectures, seminars and conferences related to the educational process, and enhancing cultural cooperation with universities and accredited research centres.

    Preparing scientific, technical and economic studies and consultations to serve the university and the public, in private and mixed sectors.

University Council

  • The University Council performs multiple tasks according to the authorities granted to it by law as it is the highest authority in the university which supervises the progress of work in all university formations of scientific and administrative levels. It submitted recommendations to the ministry on matters that fall outside the powers of the Council. Ratifying the recommendations received from the councils of all colleges and other university formations, and taking the necessary decisions about them are among the tasks of University Council.
