Overview

 

The University of Thi-Qar was established in 2002. It  includes eighteen scientific and humanitarian colleges, with 21,972 male and female students for undergraduate morning and evening studies and 1109 students for graduate studies. Those are distributed to over 46 scientific departments and 29 scientific branches that have embraced more than 1654 teaching staff with different scientific titles. The total number of its employees is 1654.

The university has erected several structures including academic buildings, constructions, dormitories, sports stadiums, laboratories, and classrooms built according to the latest urban designs.

The slogan of the university conveys deep meanings linked to civilizational heritage, originality and values with aspiration to the aspiring future. It is designed in an abstract style that is commensurate with the lofty visions and aspirations, sharing the formation of the heritage slogan, the authentic approach of the modern educational concept, as well as the infinite horizon that makes the desired scientific future.

Updating and developing learning programs according to modern scientific tendencies affording to internationally approved quality standards, taking into account the local conditions. Developing the performance of staff members as experts in education and scientific research, and intensifying their activities in various research fields. Developing the students’ abilities, knowledge, and skills by introducing them to scientific

University Council:

The University Council performs multiple tasks according to the authorities granted to it by law as it is the highest authority in the university which supervises the progress of work in all university formations of scientific and administrative levels. It submitted recommendations to the ministry on matters that fall outside the powers of the Council. Ratifying the recommendations received from the councils of all colleges and other university formations, and taking the necessary decisions about them are among the tasks of University Council.
